  • I'm just repeating what my friend stated!   The Artic Cat 4 stroke he stated puts out more power.

To be honest I'm going to hopefully ride one this weekend.  I think there is a Snowmobile show this weekend up north of Baffalo.  All the manufactorers are going to have them there with side by sides and atv's.

I would be game for getting a Viper that's why I'm going to see what they are like.

Well the CAT 4 stroke couldnt be put in reverse... and the clutches faile and....*trails off*  They started asking Yamaha for help and *trails off*

idk about the Cats man, last year was a rough year for them.  the last few really. According to my "friends" that work at dealerships selling Cats
I was sliding down the track wondering "Is that my bike?" then it hit me.

Ask me how to get even BETTER deals at

I would love to hear what you think of the thing T-Cat.  Is his a Viper or a Cat?

I am not sure but I think Cat is using their own clutch.  I don't really know.  I know the Yami is all Yami motor/clutch

  • stand corrected, it's a viper xtx, four stroke, nice sled but we will see how it works this weekend up north. only thing that scares me is no pull start backup, even being a four stroke it'd still be nice to have it if the starter fails.

  • I know right!  Even a fuely 4 stroke could have a dead battery or blow a solenoid etc... I wish they had a failsafe backup

  • Last year I went on a trip on the beginning of feb. Temps were -25 in the mornings. Yamaha four strokes don't start when it's that cold. 5 dead Yamaha's.
Only way to jump start a Yamaha is to wedge a piece of wood in the primary to engage the clutch. Then pull start it with another sled. Worked for 3 out of the 5 dead ones.

One major weakness to the four stroke. Cold motor oil is no good. They should have block heaters!

  • if they are warm you can start them by pulling a rope off the clutch but when cold...i'm doubting it. Gutzy that is some good info to know

Good friend of mine was a service guy at Heinens. He was taught this trick by some Canadians. And it works!!!

  • My sled comes with an emergency pull rope just for this. I would have some very thick gloves on. You could hurt your hands.
At -25 everything starts hard. It doesn't matter what you have. The bigger the engine the harder it is. On my sled when it is that cold I may have to pull the rope and use the electric start at the same time.

  • There were 30 sleds with us that weekend (club trip)..... Every sled started but the 5 4-stroke Yamaha's. Fact!
    A 2-stroke will always start!

  • So after being up north for the weekend here's what we learned after playing around with the float shocks getting them set up. This thing is a beast, yanks the ski's at 50+ mph, however it don't like being on it's right side, buddy was powder carving and hung it over on it's right side, he fell off and it got stuck on it's right side, it shut off on it's own but after restarting it the oil light was on and would not stay running, let it sit for 10 minutes, still no change. We ended up tipping it on it's left side for a couple minutes and then it was fine. He's gonna call the dealer in the morning and see if this is problem anybody has seen yet.

I got the chance to ride it for awhile and that procross chassis is one of the most comfortable set ups for my riding style. Time to consider a new sled next year....

  • I rode the new Viper it's a pretty nice sled!  It  handles pretty good and rides nice!  I also rode the a PRO R 800 that's more my speed I think if I bought a new sled if it's not a IQR.
